Kumana National Park
Sri Lanka's great bird sanctuary, on the far side of Yala.
Kumana borders Yala to the north-east and is built around a mangrove swamp that fills with nesting waterbirds between April and July — pelicans, painted storks, spoonbills, herons, and rarities that pull birders across the island. Leopards and elephants are here too, with a fraction of the traffic.
