Whales and dolphins
Blue whales off Mirissa in season, spinner dolphins by the hundred.
Between November and April the continental shelf comes close enough to the south coast that blue and sperm whales pass within a couple of hours of Mirissa. Boats leave before dawn. Off Trincomalee the season flips to May–September. We book operators who keep their distance and turn the engines down.
