Pigeon Island National Park
One of only two marine national parks — reef, blacktip sharks and turtles off Nilaveli.
A short boat ride off Nilaveli on the east coast, Pigeon Island protects one of the best remaining coral reefs in Sri Lanka. Snorkelling straight off the beach puts you over staghorn coral, reef fish, turtles and, often, blacktip reef sharks. The east coast season runs opposite to the south — May to September.
