Ella
A gap in the hills with waterfalls below it — the part of the trip most people slow down for.
Ella is a small town wedged into a notch in the escarpment, with the plain of the south visible through the gap on clear mornings. The train in from Nanu Oya or Haputale is the most photographed rail journey in Asia for good reason. Around the town: Little Adam's Peak (an hour, easy), Ella Rock (three hours, less easy), the Nine Arch Bridge, and Ravana Falls on the road down.
